🇱🇰 Software Engineering Fellow | Building Email 2.0 for Sri Lanka
I’m currently working on an ambitious initiative to reinvent digital communication in Sri Lanka through Email 2.0, a secure, modern, and collaborative platform designed for government institutions and organizations. This effort is part of a broader mission to digitize Sri Lanka’s public infrastructure, inspired by the pioneering vision of Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, founder of WSO2, the largest tech company in Sri Lanka.
I’m fortunate to work under the mentorship of Nuwan Senarathne, who served as a Software Engineer and Engineering Manager at Facebook (Meta) and now volunteers at the Lanka Software Foundation (LSF). Through this role, I’m gaining hands-on experience in building scalable, mission-driven systems to transform how Sri Lanka communicates and collaborates.

We propose to advance natural language processing for low-resource settings by leveraging data augmentation, transfer learning, and model adaptation techniques to overcome the scarcity of annotated data and linguistic resources.

We propose to build and analyze Sinhala language resources, datasets, and models to strengthen NLP research for this low-resource language, while connecting it to English and Tamil through bilingual lexicons, embeddings, and cross-lingual methods.
